Sasha Waltz

Sasha Waltz belongs to her generation’s most renowned dancers and choreographers. Her cross-genre opera productions have provided new, path-breaking impetus to dance und music theater. Together with Jochen Sandig, she founded the Sasha Waltz & Guests dance company in 1993, and from 2006 onward had a formative influence on Radialsystem V. In 2009, she and 100 other artists gave a presentation in the then still empty Neues Museum on Berlin’s Museum Island. In 2010, Sasha Waltz and Milla & Partner participated in the competition for the National Monument to Freedom and Unity on Schlossplatz in Berlin-Mitte and convinced the jury with their walkable sculpture.

Neues Museum

The Neues Museum, lies in the heart of the city. Built from 1843-55 by Friedrich August Stüler and largely destroyed during the Second World War, the Neues Museum was consigned to an existence in ruins in the GDR. Its reopening in 2009, after elaborate and cautious restoration by David Chipperfield Architects, marks a milestone in the revival of Berlin’s historical center and the cultural heritage of the new capital. Today, the Neues Museum accommodates the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte and the Ägyptische Sammlung of the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin, whose main exhibit is the world-renowned bust of the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti attracting millions of visitors each year.
